Linda Westman's Book is Here!

Hi Reader,

You may remember Linda Ann Westman from one of my past summits, a retired chiropractor with joy that seems to come right up through her shoes.

Today her book Come Home to Yourself: A Woman's Guide to Creating a Joy-Filled Life Through Self-Love is out on Kindle, with the print edition following Monday.

When Linda first approached me, she had fifty pages that wouldn't go any further. She told me she has trouble with the executive-functioning part of writing. Whenever anyone asked what the book was about, she'd offer a plethora of topics and they'd put their hands up: whoa, wait a minute.

The first thing we did was sit together and sort out what belonged, what didn't, what was actually one book versus three. Once we had the shape, we were able to run with it.

What I love about Linda's approach is how completely she trusts her reader. She doesn't tell anyone what their healing should look like. She shares what brought her peace, and the moments her clients came back changed. Then she trusts you, the reader, to find out what you can do with it.

There's a doctor's precision in her practices and a friend's warmth in her voice, and the two never fight each other on the page.

Early readers have been generous:

"So much of this book helped me feel seen and understood. Linda has a wonderful way of putting words to feelings I didn't understand." — Madisen Hastings

"I was deeply touched by the author's descriptions of her feelings as she began loving herself. Witnessing her letting go of self-criticism freed me from my own self-criticism." — Kira Davidson

Linda picked today because it's a new moon. A good day, she said, to start things. That's exactly the kind of attention to timing and intention that runs through the whole book.

If you, or someone in your life, has been waiting for permission to come home to yourself, here it is!

With joy, Laura

P.S. If you're a writer carrying a book like this, 0ne that asks you to be vulnerable on the page, Linda's journey is a beautiful reminder that the world does want to hear it. Hit reply and tell me what you're working on.

Hi Reader, I made a cartoon of my goat Precious making soap, and I had a lot of fun doing it. I never thought that would be something I could learn how to do. Yep, I used AI tools. Several of them.AI is here, like cars and cameras. You can still paint a portrait by hand if you have the skills and the time. You can still walk and ride a bike places. It's better for you and for the environment. But most of us live in places that weren't designed for bicycles and pedestrians. So much depends...

Hi Reader, Looking back over the summit interviews I've done over the years, it's interesting how many of the authors, when I asked what got them across the finish line, said something like, "I had to call the book done. My publisher was waiting for it." Someone was waiting for the book, and that's what got it finished. You've probably heard me and others talk about how a book takes a village. Beta readers who can tell you whether they're hearing what you're trying to say. A coach who helps...

Hi Reader, Three goat kids left for their new farm this week, and the milk keeps coming! 10 quarts a day. We're freezing most of it while setting up the business that will connect all this milk with people who can use it, and while building infrastructure for the intentional family we're growing. This means we're in motion from first light until the afternoon heat makes rest mandatory. In between, the time I spend on calls with clients and working on my book in the Writing Studio feels like a...
